School & work uniform alterations

Uniforms get worn hard, so they should fit well. We adjust hems, sleeves and waistbands, and repair the pieces that see the most action.

What we can do

Blazers and jackets

Sleeve length, body fit, shoulders and lining repairs: we’ll look at the uniform’s design before suggesting any bigger changes.

Trousers and shorts

Shorten hems, adjust the waist or taper the legs. For growing kids, tell us if you’d like spare fabric kept inside so we can let them down later.

Dresses and skirts

Change the length, straps or waist, keeping the school or workplace rules in mind. Bring a copy of any requirements to the fitting.

Repairs, badges and details

Buttons, zips and split seams, plus sewing on the badges or patches you supply.

Rise, seat, pockets and zips

Trousers and shorts that are uncomfortable in the rise or seat can be adjusted. We can also add pockets, or zips that make a uniform easier to get on and off.

How much does it cost?

The type of garment, lining, pleats, repairs and the number of items all affect the price.

Uniform alterations are priced by garment and job. A lined blazer, a pleated skirt and a plain trouser hem are different work, so bring the actual pieces for a quote.

Bring it in and we’ll take a look, talk you through the work and confirm your price before you leave it with us. If you have matching fabric, buttons or measurements, bring those too.

Uniforms that fit and last

School uniforms and room for growth

Bring the uniform with the person who wears it, plus their usual shoes and any school requirements. Instead of cutting away spare length, we can often keep it inside for later. Pleats, cuffs, blazers and lined skirts all need their own approach. Repairing pockets, buttons, zips and seams can also keep a uniform going for another term or two.

Workwear and badges

For work uniforms, tell us about any rules for length, fit, pockets or where your badges go. Let us know about protective features or markings that need to stay. Bringing several items? Bring the actual garments, as two pieces with the same label aren’t always made the same way, and we’ll confirm the work and timing for each.

Your questions

Can you leave room for growth?

Yes, just tell us at the fitting. Rather than cutting the extra length away, we can often tuck it inside for later.

Can you adjust uniform shirt collars and cuffs?

Yes. Collars and cuffs on uniform shirts and blouses can be made tighter or looser. Bring the shirt in so we can check the fit and how the collar and cuffs are made.

Can you sew on a supplied school or work badge?

Yes. Bring the badge, the garment and any placement instructions, and we’ll check the best spot and method. We sew on badges and patches you supply; we don’t do embroidery or make custom patches.

Should I bring every item in?

Yes, bring each item you want altered, or give us a call first if you have a lot. One fitting doesn’t tell us how every garment will fit, so we check sizes and changes piece by piece.

Can uniform hems be let down later?

If there’s fabric left in the hem, often yes. Mention growth at the first fitting and we’ll keep extra inside. Worn fold lines and earlier cutting can limit how much we can let down.

How long will the work take, and is express available?

Most simple jobs are ready in 3–5 days, and more complex work in 1–2 weeks. In a rush? Express options are available for an extra fee. Just tell us your deadline. Express rates are 30% for same-day, 20% for next-day and 10% for two-day work, or 40% for same-day and 30% for next-day on Saturdays. Express depends on how busy we are, so we’ll confirm it and your pickup time before we start.
