Suit alterations

Look sharp for work, a wedding or a big night. We fit the jacket and trousers together, so your suit looks like it was made for you.

What we can do

Trouser hems and tapering

Set the length and break, taper the legs or adjust the waist. We’ll check how the trousers sit with your shoes and jacket.

Jacket sleeves and body

Get the sleeve length right and a closer fit through the body. Shortening the jacket or changing the shoulders needs extra care to keep its proportions, and we’ll talk you through it.

Suit skirts and waistbands

Adjust the length and waist of a suit skirt, keeping the lining and style in mind. Letting out depends on the fabric inside the seams.

Lining, buttons and zips

Torn linings, loose buttons and broken zips can be fixed at the same time as your fitting changes, so the whole suit is ready to go.

How much does it cost?

A trouser hem and a jacket fitting are different jobs. Your price covers the work on each piece, including the lining and finishing details.

A trouser hem, a jacket sleeve and a full suit refit are different jobs, so we price the individual changes after your fitting instead of offering a package price.

Bring it in and we’ll take a look, talk you through the work and confirm your price before you leave it with us. If you have matching fabric, buttons or measurements, bring those too.

Fitting the suit as a whole outfit

Fit the jacket and trousers together

Bring the shirt, shoes and belt you’ll wear with the suit. We’ll look at the jacket sleeves and body alongside the trouser length, waist and leg, and you choose the changes that matter most to you. Your price adds up the work on each piece, rather than one charge for every possible change.

Structural changes and finishing details

Adjusting the shoulders, changing the jacket length or working around buttonholes is bigger work than a trouser hem. Pocket placement, vents, lining and the spare fabric in the seams set the limits. We can fix loose buttons, split seams and torn linings at the same time. Dressing a wedding party or bringing several suits? Your questions

Can an off-the-rack suit be tailored?

Yes, and it can make a world of difference. At the fitting we’ll show you which changes will have the biggest impact.

Can you help with a wedding party?

We’d love to! We alter suits and other wedding outfits. Call your preferred shop with the number of outfits and the date, and we’ll plan the fittings with you.

Can a suit be made one or two sizes smaller?

The size label doesn’t tell us much. It depends on the shoulders, armholes, pocket placement and proportions. Plenty of fit changes work beautifully, but a big resize can change the look of the suit, and we’ll tell you honestly.

Can you keep trouser cuffs and creases?

Tell us the finish you want at the fitting. Cuffs need enough length, and we’ll plan how the trousers sit over your shoes. Old folds or wear can affect what we can keep.

Why is a full suit priced after a fitting?

No two suits need the same mix of waist, hem, sleeve, lining and structural work. We’ll go through each change and explain the price before you decide, including anything that isn’t worth doing.

How long will the work take, and is express available?

Most simple jobs are ready in 3–5 days, and more complex work in 1–2 weeks. In a rush? Express options are available for an extra fee. Just tell us your deadline. Express rates are 30% for same-day, 20% for next-day and 10% for two-day work, or 40% for same-day and 30% for next-day on Saturdays. Express depends on how busy we are, so we’ll confirm it and your pickup time before we start.
