Pocket repairs & alterations

Losing your keys through a hole in your pocket? We’ll repair it, resize it, or add a new pocket where you need one.

What we can do

Torn pockets and lining

We repair holes and replace worn pocket bags, and check the openings and seams for any other wear while we’re at it.

Adding pockets

A new pocket needs the right fabric and a spot that works with the garment. We’ll look at the lining, seams and how it hangs, and suggest the best place.

Size and placement

Make a pocket deeper or move it somewhere more useful. Old stitching and fading can show, and we’ll tell you before we start.

Removing or restyling

Remove a pocket you don’t use, or change a decorative one as part of a restyle. Its old outline may still show, so we’ll talk it through.

How much does it cost?

The type of pocket, the lining, replacement fabric, how easy it is to reach and whether we need a new opening all affect the price.

A small pocket repair and a brand-new pocket are very different jobs. We’ll price your repair, replacement or design change once we’ve seen it.

Bring it in and we’ll take a look, talk you through the work and confirm your price before you leave it with us. If you have matching fabric, buttons or measurements, bring those too.

Fix a pocket or change how it works

Pocket bags, openings and worn corners

A hole in the pocket bag, a loose opening and worn fabric around a pocket each need a different repair. Bring it in and show us where it catches, tears or lets things slip through. We check the fabric and lining around it, then stitch, reinforce or replace the pocket fabric. Many repairs don’t change the outside at all.

Adding, moving or removing pockets

A new pocket needs room, a strong spot to attach to and access to the inside of the garment. Tell us how you’ll use it, and we’ll suggest a size and position. Moving or removing a pocket can leave stitch marks or a faded outline, especially on denim or vintage pieces. Bring a photo and tell us which original details you want to keep.

Your questions

Can you add a zip or button closure to a pocket?

Yes. A zip or button closure can keep your valuables safe. We’ll check the pocket opening and fabric, and find a zip or button to match.

Can you add hidden pockets or pocket flaps?

Yes. We can add a discreet hidden pocket inside a garment, or flaps to existing pockets. We’ll look at how it’s made and plan the position and design with you.

Can you replace the inside of a trouser pocket?

Yes. We’ll check the pocket bag and how it joins the waistband and seams, then recommend a repair or a new pocket bag.

Can you add pockets to a dress or skirt?

Often! The side seams, lining, fabric weight and space decide whether a pocket will work and how it will sit. We’ll suggest the best position and size.

Will removing a pocket leave marks?

It can. Stitching, fading or wear may show where the pocket was. We’ll talk about it before we unpick anything, so you can decide.

How long will the work take, and is express available?

Most simple jobs are ready in 3–5 days, and more complex work in 1–2 weeks. In a rush? Express options are available for an extra fee. Just tell us your deadline. Express rates are 30% for same-day, 20% for next-day and 10% for two-day work, or 40% for same-day and 30% for next-day on Saturdays. Express depends on how busy we are, so we’ll confirm it and your pickup time before we start.
