What we can do
Shortening and width changes
We can shorten long curtains or resize the panels for a new window. We’ll check the width, lining and fabric with you before we confirm the finished size.
Hems, edges and repairs
Torn edges, split seams and a worn heading can be repaired and reinforced. Sun damage can weaken fabric, so we’ll let you know how strong the repair will be.
Linings and heading details
Ask us about changing the lining or adjusting the pleats and heading. Tell us what kind of curtain it is and how it hangs, and we’ll suggest what will work.
Lengthening and decorative changes
Adding length or a trim needs the right fabric. Bring any matching material you have, and we’ll agree how the join will look before we start.
Blackout and thermal linings
We can add a blackout lining for darker rooms or a thermal lining to keep the warmth in. Tell us what you want the lining to do, and we’ll check the fabric weight and heading.
Pleats, heavy fabrics and trims
Change the heading to pinch, box or goblet pleats. Heavier fabrics such as velvet get extra care, and we can repair or replace tassels and trims.
How much does it cost?
Panel width, fabric weight, lining, heading and the number of panels all affect the price.
Curtain prices depend on the number and width of the panels, the lining, the heading and the finish. We’ll confirm whether it’s charged per panel, per length or for the whole job before we start.
Bring it in and we’ll take a look, talk you through the work and confirm your price before you leave it with us. If you have matching fabric, buttons or measurements, bring those too.
Getting the size and finish right
Length, width and lining
Bring the curtains and the finished size you need. Tell us how they hang, whether your measurement includes the heading and whether the panels should match. We look at the fabric, lining and hem across the full width. Making curtains longer needs spare fabric or an added panel, and changing the width can affect the heading and fullness.
Repairs and changes to the heading
We repair loose seams, damaged hems and tears, and reinforce where the fabric is under strain. Want new heading tape or a different way of hanging them? Tell us, and bring any parts you’d like us to use. Heavy, lined and decorative curtains need a different approach from a light panel. For large pieces, give us a call first and we’ll help you plan how to bring them in.
Your questions
Can you shorten lined curtains?
Yes. We work on the fabric and lining together, so the finished curtains hang nicely.
Can you measure at my home?
We don’t offer in-home measuring or installation, but we’re happy to explain how to measure. Give your shop a call.
Do you charge by the metre or by the curtain?
It depends on the job. Once we’ve seen the panels, width, lining and finish, we’ll confirm how it’s charged and the full price. A narrow unlined panel and a wide lined curtain are very different work.
Can I bring just the measurements?
Measurements are a great start, but we need to see the fabric and how the curtains are made to give you a price. Give your shop a call if you need advice before carting a big set in.
Should I wash my curtains before altering them?
Follow the care label, and let us know if you plan to clean them. If cleaning might change the size, we’ll talk about the order of work before setting the final length. We no longer offer dry cleaning.
How long will the work take, and is express available?
Most simple jobs are ready in 3–5 days, and more complex work in 1–2 weeks. In a rush? Express options are available for an extra fee. Just tell us your deadline. Express rates are 30% for same-day, 20% for next-day and 10% for two-day work, or 40% for same-day and 30% for next-day on Saturdays. Express depends on how busy we are, so we’ll confirm it and your pickup time before we start.
